Director Chona Mantilla of DOLE-Caraga welcomes participants to the “Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Seminar” in Butuan City, recently. Director Mantilla expresses the city’s need to be educated on illegal recruitment and trafficking in persons. “Now more than ever we need to be educated on illegal recruitment and trafficking to help our OFWs, women and children who are the usual victims of trafficking and illegal recruitment,” says Director Mantilla. Atty. Rosemarie Duquez, OIC of the Anti-Illegal Recruitment Branch of POEA discusses the applicable laws on trafficking in persons during the “Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Seminar” in Butuan City, recently. Atty. Duquez says that if the trafficked person is a child that immediately qualifies as qualified trafficking. She further explains that to knowingly lease or sublease, use or allow to be used any house, building or establishments for the purpose of promoting trafficking can be charged with trafficking. Even to produce, print or issue fake counseling certificates can be charged with trafficking. (Lovely Laudette Gamba, PIA-Caraga)

Atty. Paciano Palejo of the Legal Assistance Division of POEA discusses the anti-illegal recruitment program of the POEA during the “Anti-Illegal Recruitment and Trafficking in Persons Seminar” in Butuan City, recently. Atty. Palejo said that POEA is providing victims of illegal recruitment with free legal assistance. The office also conducts surveillance, closure and entrapment operations on persons and entities suspected to be engaged in illegal recruitment. (Lovely Laudette Gamba, PIA-Caraga)
