Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Caraga Regional Director and GADCC Chairperson – Atty. Marylin Pintor (2nd from left) explains to the media why the RDC-GADCC conducts the 18-day campaign every year from November 25 to December 10, 2009 with the theme “Commit, Act, Demand: We can end violence against women!”. Pintor said “The 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence is an international campaign originating from the first Women’s Global Leadership Institute sponsored by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership (CWGL) at Rutgers University in 1991 wherein participants chose the dates – November 25 as the International Day Against Women, and December 10 as International Human Rights Day,” held today (Nov. 24) at the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA)-Caraga conference room, Butuan City. PNP GAD Focal Person - PSUPT Cristia Dela Cruz gives updates on the number of cases of women and children who experienced various types of VAWC abuse foremost is domestic abuse where some of the victims did not pursue the case filed in court against the culprits. PSUPT Dela Cruz reveals that there are still those children and women who are victims but are just afraid to report it to the authorities.
