Regional Director Ofelia Domingo bares that DOLE intends to accomplish the following:
1) liberate the 'Batang Kalabaw' from hauling logs for a fee of P50 or less,
considered as worst forms of child labor; 2) provide livelihood to parents of
child laborers through provision of 13 carabaos; 3) to bring back the child
laborers in school; 4) to ensure that child laborers will remain in school
through provision of school supplies and source of income in the long term to
the parents; and 5) to achieve a child labor free barangay in Jabonga, Agusan

To address the dilemma on child labor in Caraga
region specifically in Agusan del Norte, the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE) releases 13 carabaos to some 22 parents of the 30 children who are known
as ‘Batang Kalabaw’ in Barangay Baleguian, Jabonga, Agusan del Norte. The five
carabaos came from the DOLE-Caraga, the other three from the office of
Congresswoman Angelica Rosedell Amante-Matba and other five from the office of
