The heads of the
Mindanao Energy Power Alliance (right),
the Association of Mindanao Rural Electric Cooperatives, and other business
support organizations are convening in a roundtable discussion with Energy
Secretary Jose Rene Almendras and senior energy officials to discuss private
sector recommendations for a sustainable power supply, in the run-up to the
21st Mindanao Business Conference to be held August 2-4 in Butuan City. The series
of high-level economic policy roundtables at the Traders Hotel in Manila, which
focused on strengthening Mindanao’s competitiveness in agriculture, mining and
transport in addition to energy, was organized by the Philippine Chamber of
Commerce and Industry and the Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA), with
support from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) through its
Growth with Equity in Mindanao (GEM) Program, which is implemented under the
