Bureau of Foods and Drugs (BFAD) Food and Drug Regulation Officer Fatima Lozada is shown here discussing Article 85 of Foods and Drugs Law stating “one may consider a food to be mislabeled if its labeling or advertising is false or misleading in any way". Lozada said that the names and quantity of fortifying ingredients and the percentage composition of the food should be indicated on the label. Bureau of Foods and Drugs (BFAD) Food and Drug Regulation Officer Perla Alvizo discusses Memorandum Circular No. 25, s. 1992 – “Additional Labeling Requirement for Food Supplement.” Alvizo said that food supplement as defined under Administrative Order No. 62 series of 1968 refers to those used for supplementing of fortifying the ordinary or usual diet with any vitamin, mineral or other dietary property, held recently at the Department of Health (DOH) Caraga Regional Office during the Consultative Meeting with Food Supplement Manufacturers, Distributors and Advertisers on the labeling Requirement for Food Supplement, and Related Matters. Bureau of Foods and Drugs (BFAD) Food and Drug Regulation Officer Leslie Cimagala warns the public that no food supplement cures any disease. Cimagala said “food supplements do not cure such disease, it only provides additional nutrients and there was no reported scientific study to prove that it had already cured a particular disease”. Bureau of Foods and Drugs (BFAD) Chief Administrative Officer Florminda Tejano reads the commitment of some registered food supplement manufacturers, distributors and advertisers in Caraga Region, and the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Caraga (as partner agency in information dissemination). The commitment states: “in the interest of food safety, and protection of consumers from misleading advertisements and fraudulent sales promotion practices, we reiterate our commitment to be guided with the DOH-BFAD rules, regulations and standards with respect to the veracity of the labels and advertisement of our products in accordance with Republic Act. No. 3720 as amended by Executive Order No. 175, s. 1987 and Republic Act No. 7394 or the Consumer Act of the Philippines.
